CILICIA. Tarsos. Mazaios, satrap of Cilicia, 361/0-334 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 10.66 g, 4 h). 𐑁𐑏𐑋𐑕𐑓𐑆 ('b'ltrs' in Aramaic) Baaltars seated left on backless throne, holding lotus-tipped scepter in his right hand and resting his left on his chlamys at his waist; to left, bird seated right on thymiaterion. Rev. π‘Œπ‘†π‘“π‘‰ ('mzdy' in Aramaic) Lion walking left on rocky ground. SNG Levante 188. SNG Paris 432. SNG von Aulock 5463. A wonderful piece, beautifully toned and very well centered. Nearly extremely fine.
